The Miami Carol City Senior High School Alumni Scholarship (MCC Alumni Scholarship) is a $1,000.00 scholarship awarded to deserving graduates from Miami Carol City Senior High to cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, and expenses related to attending a college/university after graduation. The Alumni Association will award five (5) scholarships.

To receive the Scholarship, you must:

  • Demonstrate a need for financial assistance;

  • Have no disciplinary issues during senior year;

  • Have at least one (1) teacher or advisor recommendation and one (1) additional letter of recommendation from a community member;

  • At the time of application, complete a 1000-word essay;

  • Overcoming Obstacles. Describe a situation or experience where you had to overcome a challenge or obstacle and tell how you feel that experience will help you in your future endeavors as you pursue a degree.

  • College acceptance letter (students may submit proof of application acceptance and processing in lieu of a letter if a letter is unavailable at time of application, however, the award will not be funded until an acceptance letter is received by the Association);

  • Completed applications with supporting documentation may be submitted from February 1, 2017 until March 31, 2017 at 8:00 p.m.; and

  • Be available to attend the Awards Gala on April 29, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. with one guest chaperone.

This award is not transferable. The award will be funded at the time of the Awards Gala unless a pending acceptance letter has not yet been received. Once the letter is received the winner will receive their Award from the Association. School violations prior to graduation may result in the loss of the Scholarship if it has not yet been funded.

Essays will be assessed on logical and effective organization, grammar, punctuation, and content (topic and question requested above). The factors will be weighed as follows: content-65 percent; grammar-20 percent; logical and effective organization-10 percent; punctuation-5 percent. Essays should follow APA formatting. Essays will be judged by volunteers of the Alumni Association. The volunteers will pick 5 winners varying in academic levels and areas of need. All decisions of the judge(s) are final.

Completed applications should be sent to no later than 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2017. Applications received after 8:00 p.m. will not be considered.

Winners will be notified via email and announced at the Scholarship Gala.
